Mountain Brook Fire Department Urges Residents to Relocate Indoor Gas Meters

The Mountain Brook Fire Department issued a public service announcement advising residents with natural gas meters located inside their homes to contact Spire, the regional gas utility, about having the meters moved to the exterior of their properties.

According to the department, Spire will relocate indoor meters to the outside of a home at no cost to the homeowner and will bring the installation up to current code standards. The department described the relocation as a safety upgrade, noting it is particularly relevant for older homes.

Residents who are unsure whether their gas meter is located indoors are encouraged to check and contact Spire at 1-800-292-4008 to arrange a relocation if needed.
